Truckee Surgery Center staff will contact you by phone prior to your admission. To help you prepare for your visit, please review the instructions below.
- You will be receiving a call from the surgery center within a week of your surgery to review pre-operative instructions and to review your health history and medications you are currently taking.
- You must have a responsible adult to drive you home and to care for you following your procedure or your case will be cancelled. Your ride must stay within a 30min radius of the surgery center.
Diet
You will be receiving instructions from the surgery center on eating and drinking limitations.
Please note: Consuming food or drink outside the following parameters poses a risk for aspiration pneumonia and will delay or cancel your surgery.
- You may eat solid foods up until 8 hours prior to check-in
- You may drink clear liquids up until 2 hours prior to check-in
- Clear liquids include water, apple, grape or cranberry juice (NOTHING with pulp or nectar), BLACK coffee or tea (NO milk or cream), jello, soda or clear sports drinks
- NO broth
Medications
A nurse will review what medications to take and not to take during your pre-operative call.
- Tylenol is OK to take as needed prior to your procedure
- Please STOP taking any vitamins or herbal supplements 10 to 14 days prior to your surgery
- Please STOP taking anti-inflammatory medications (Motrin, Advil (ibuprofen), Aleve, aspirin procucts, ect.) 7-10 days prior to surgery
- Fill all prescriptions prior to your surgery day, prescriptions should be sent by your surgeon at your pre-op appointment. If you do not have a pre-op appointment, please reach out to your surgeon’s office.
Prior to surgery
To prevent infection, the night before surgery and the morning of surgery you must shower with an antibacterial soap.
- The physician’s office will supply you with this soap (if applicable)
- Use from the neck down only
- Use your own products for your hair and face
- Use a clean washcloth and towel
- Put on clean clothes
- Put clean linens on your bed prior to going to sleep
- Do not wear lotion, deodorant or makeup
- Do not shave the surgery site for at least 2 days prior to your surgery
- Remove all jewelry and body piercings
- Leave all valuables at home
- Wear loose and comfortable clothing
Day of surgery
Please bring the following items with you the day of your procedure:
- If you received a folder from the physician’s office, bring this with you
- If you have an advanced directive, please bring a copy with you
- Bring crutches, ice machine, knee or shoulder immobilizer if applicable
- If you use an inhaler for asthma, please bring the inhaler with you
If you develop any flu-like or Covid-like symptoms (fever, cough, sore throat, runny nose, loss of taste or smell, body aches, etc.) please call the surgery center immediately.
Pediatric patients
Parent or legal guardian must accompany minor and stay within the surgery center for the duration of their stay.
- California law requires that any child under 8 years of age or less than 4 feet 9 inches tall must be secured in a rear seat in a federally approved child restraint system when riding in an automobile
